What is SPC Flooring?

SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) flooring is a new generation of rigid core vinyl flooring that combines natural stone powder and high-quality PVC resin. This unique composition gives SPC flooring its remarkable durability, dimensional stability, and waterproof performance.

A typical SPC plank is made of five layers:

  • UV Coating – Protects against fading, stains, and surface scratches.

  • Wear Layer – Ensures resistance to abrasion and daily impact.

  • Decorative Film – Offers highly realistic wood, stone, or tile patterns.

  • SPC Rigid Core – Provides excellent strength and stability, preventing expansion or contraction.

  • Underlayment (Optional) – Improves sound absorption and walking comfort.

Unlike traditional hardwood or laminate, SPC flooring is completely waterproof, environmentally safe, and extremely low-maintenance. It is suitable for both home and commercial environments where aesthetics, performance, and cost-efficiency matter.

Advantages of SPC Flooring

Yes, SPC flooring do have so many benefits. The following are:

1. 100% Waterproof and Moisture-Proof

Thanks to its dense stone-plastic core, SPC flooring does not swell, warp, or deform when exposed to water. This makes it the perfect choice for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and basements.

2. Superior Dimensional Stability

SPC planks remain stable even under drastic temperature changes. Whether it's installed in a sunlit living room or a high-traffic commercial area, the flooring stays flat and secure.

3. High Wear & Scratch Resistance

With an advanced wear layer, SPC flooring withstands heavy foot traffic, pet claws, and furniture movement. It is a reliable solution for households with children and pets, as well as busy retail and office spaces.

4. Easy and Fast Installation

Equipped with a click-lock system, SPC flooring can be installed directly over most existing subfloors without adhesives. This saves time and reduces labor costs, making it a DIY-friendly option.

5. Comfortable & Quiet Underfoot

When paired with an IXPE or EVA underlayment, SPC flooring not only feels soft and supportive underfoot but also minimizes noise, creating a more peaceful indoor environment.

6. Low Maintenance

Unlike wood flooring that requires regular polishing, SPC flooring only needs simple sweeping and mopping to keep it looking fresh and clean.

7. Fire-Resistant & Slip-Resistant

SPC flooring achieves high fire-resistance ratings and offers safe anti-slip surfaces, providing extra protection in both residential and commercial applications.

8. Eco-Friendly and Safe for Health

Manufactured without harmful substances such as formaldehyde and phthalates, SPC flooring is FloorScore certified for indoor air quality, making it a safe choice for families and businesses.

9. Cost-Effective and Long-Lasting

Compared to hardwood, ceramic tile, or natural stone, SPC flooring offers an affordable price point while delivering comparable aesthetics and superior durability. Its long lifespan means excellent value for money.

How to Install DIY SPC Flooring?

Installing DIY SPC Flooring is straightforward and typically involves the following steps:

Prepare the Subfloor:

Ensure the subfloor is clean, dry, and level. Remove any existing flooring and repair any imperfections.

Acclimate the Flooring:

Allow the SPC flooring planks to acclimate to the room's temperature and humidity for at least 48 hours.

Prepare Layout:

Plan the layout, starting from a corner and working towards the opposite wall. Ensure the last row of planks will not be too narrow.

Underlayment (if necessary):

Some SPC flooring may require an underlayment for additional cushioning or soundproofing. Follow manufacturer guidelines if an underlayment is needed.

Install the First Row:

Place the first plank with the tongue facing the wall, leaving a 1/4-inch expansion gap between the plank and the wall. Use spacers to maintain this gap.

Continue Installation:

Click the next plank into the previous one, working row by row across the room. Stagger the end joints of adjacent rows for a more natural look and greater stability.

Cutting Planks:

Measure and cut planks as needed to fit around obstacles like doorways or corners, using a saw appropriate for the material (e.g., jigsaw or circular saw).

Final Rows and Finishing:

For the last row, measure and cut planks to fit, ensuring the 1/4-inch expansion gap remains. Install any necessary transition pieces or moldings to complete the edges and cover gaps.

Finishing Touches:

Remove spacers, install baseboards or quarter-round moldings to cover expansion gaps, and clean the floor to remove any installation debris.

Allow to Set:

Allow the installed floor to settle for at least 24 hours before heavy use. Follow manufacturer's guidelines for specific care and maintenance instructions.
